Something I look forward to each year is trying to create an epic birthday party for the love of my life, Kelby Rylen!
We went through a couple different options before finally choosing a Coco inspired Dia de los Muertos theme! I was instantly drawn to this theme because of all the vibrant colors, beautiful music and overall cultural traditions.
Invitations are the first opportunity to provide your guests with the first impression of what to expect at your event. I wanted the Invitation Suite to be filled with all the details of Coco while incorporating the bright colors I would carry throughout the entire event.
The Invitation Suite was designed around a vibrant Sugar Skull and the traditional Mexican Papel Picado border printed on our Premium Quality White Metallic stock.
Custom Envelope Liners quickly take an Invitation to the next level! I designed a liner of which incorporated an illustrated boho floral pattern and skulls in bright orange, pinks and yellow.
Creating a softer look to a naturally darker theme can be challenging, but the result was even better than what I had hoped; and miss Kelby had full creative decisions throughout the entire process!
In the celebration of Dia de los Muertos, and a key element in the Disney Pixar movie is the Ofrenda / Altar. The Altar is traditionally decorated with colorful Flowers, Candles, Pan de Muerto, Fruit and Photos of Ancestors.
The Altar design was essential being the center of the party!
Throughout the party, you'll find elements that were significant to the film - such as the photos of ancestors from Coco.
Kelby absolutely loves art! For that reason, I always try and include some type of arts & crafts station that the kids would enjoy. I found these adorable sugar skull treat bags on Amazon that fit perfectly with the theme!
Along with the bags, I added a personalized Tag with a cute Papel Picado design and Home Made Sugar Skull Crayons, bound together with some Naturally Dried Raffia String.
The art station also included simple decor such as the El Pato flower pot with succulents and stones in the party's color theme.
I HATE TACOS, SAID NO JUAN EVER!
With event planning it's all about the little details coming together that create the overall experience for your guests. Naturally tacos fit the theme, and the food was absolutely delicious.
The Taco Bar included Chicken Fajitas, Carne Asada, Al Pastor with Rice and Beans all within these beautiful clay pots.
The colorful Felt Garlands tied in the boho style, and were incredibly easy to make.
The Beverage Bar included Horchata and Strawberry Agua Frescas.
Say Queso! The Fiesta Wall was possibly my favorite element of the all the decor! Using colorful fringed tissue paper, I layered up the wall for the perfect photo backdrop!
The custom Garland and Meri Meri Paper Plates helped tie in the Rose Gold accent.
The Churro Bar!
This year we decided on Churro Cupcakes with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting.
The bar featured colorful sprinkle toppings and chocolate dip.
Everyone LOVED having their face painted by Celena Garcia! Celena has studied the art of Day of the Dead facial paintings and came up with different designs for each kiddo!
We incorporated more Pixar by making this beautiful Dante Character Piñata! It's basically the cutest thing ever!
I loved the idea of incorporating the game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but created a poster of "Pin the Bow on the Sugar Skull" for a slightly more creative twist to fit in with the theme!
Most importantly we got to spend a weekend full of love from our best of friends and family!
Can we take a moment to stop and awe over this beautifully tailored dress by Little Ms Dress Up! Kelby picked out the colors and style herself!
